Bio e Storia Dream Theater
I Dream Theater sono una band progressive metal statunitense considerata tra le più influenti del genere. La loro storia è ricca di evoluzioni e successi. Vediamo le tappe principali:
La band nasce nel 1985 con il nome Majesty al Berklee College of Music di Boston. I fondatori sono John Petrucci (chitarra), John Myung (basso) e Mike Portnoy (batteria), accomunati dalla passione per il rock progressivo e la tecnica strumentale.
Nel 1988 si unisce alla band il tastierista Kevin Moore e successivamente il cantante Charlie Dominici. Registrano il primo album “When Dream and Day Unite” (1989) ancora come Majesty, ma per questioni legali cambiano presto nome in Dream Theater.
Nel 1991 entra a far parte della band il cantante James LaBrie, che segna l’inizio dell’epoca d’oro dei Dream Theater. Album come “Images and Words” (1992) e “Awake” (1994) li consacrano come leader del progressive metal, grazie a brani complessi e virtuosistici uniti a testi profondi.
La band continua a sperimentare con album come “Falling into Infinity” (1997) e “Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory” (2000). Nel 1999 Kevin Moore viene sostituito da Jordan Rudess alle tastiere, che porta un tocco più elettronico al sound. Nel 2005 il batterista Mike Portnoy lascia la band per divergenze artistiche.
Mike Mangini prende il posto di Portnoy alla batteria e i Dream Theater continuano a pubblicare album di successo come “Systematic Chaos” (2007) e “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” (2009). Nel 2023 torna Mike Portnoy, Mangini lascia, e la band si dà all’attività live col progetto An Evening With.
