Bio e Storia dei Napalm Death
I Napalm Death sono una band britannica considerata da molti come la forza motrice dietro la nascita del grindcore, un genere musicale estremo che unisce elementi di death metal e hardcore punk. La loro carriera, iniziata nel 1981, è costellata di innovazione, denuncia sociale e una ferocia sonora che li ha resi dei veri e propri pilastri della scena metal estrema.
Nati a Meriden, vicino a Birmingham, in Inghilterra, i Napalm Death iniziano come un gruppo hardcore punk influenzato da Discharge e Crass. La formazione originaria era piuttosto instabile, ma il nucleo fondante della band era composto da:

Nel 1982 si unisce alla band il chitarrista Justin Broadrich, che avrà un ruolo fondamentale nello sviluppo del loro sound. In questo periodo, i Napalm Death accelerano il ritmo e aumentano la componente noise della loro musica, avvicinandosi a quello che diventerà il grindcore. Il loro primo demo, “Scum” (1984), è un violento manifesto sonoro che getta le basi per il genere. Pubblicato dall’etichetta Earache Records, diventa un disco simbolo dell’underground estremo.
Nel 1987 arriva l’album che consacra i Napalm Death come padrini del grindcore: “Scum”. Brani velocissimi e abrasivi come “You Suffer” e “Siege of Power” diventano inni per gli appassionati del genere. Si unisce alla band anche il bassista Shane Embury, che diventerà una colonna portante del gruppo. Nonostante la brevità delle canzoni (spesso sotto il minuto) e la violenza sonora, i testi di “Scum” affrontano tematiche sociali e politiche come la guerra, la disuguaglianza e l’oppressione.
A partire dagli anni ’90, i Napalm Death iniziano a sperimentare, allontanandosi leggermente dal grindcore puro. Album come “Harmony Corruption” (1990) e “Utopia Banished” (1992) incorporano elementi di death metal e metal tecnico, mantenendo però la loro ferocia e attitudine. La loro lunga carriera è ancora attivissima: l’ultimo album è Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism del 2020.
